TIME WITH GOD
Read Matthew 26:36-58
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, ‘What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?
Matthew 26:40 (NKJV)
Have you ever had the experience where you got up early in the morning and tried having a worship experience with God, but you were so sleepy that you could not stay up? Such was the disciples’ experience when Jesus asked them to watch and pray. Their eyes were heavy, and they could not find the energy they needed to pray for the master. Were they disinterested in Jesus’s suffering? or were they overwhelmed by sleep?
We find it so easy to spend many hours doing worldly things with our minds alert and fully engaged. Yet, fatigue and exhaustion overtake us when we decide to study the Bible or spend time with God. We are always encouraged to “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (Peter 5:8). Surrendering ourselves to God will wade off the influence of the evil one. In the disciples’ experience, the spirit was willing, but the flesh was weak (Verse 41).
Finally, we should remember that laboring for God and spending time with God are different. Let us ask God to give us the desire to have a close and personal relationship with Him. As we prioritize time for what we believe is essential, may we consider spending time with God to be of utmost value?
