Read Genesis 9:13-17
I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
Genesis 9:13, 17 (NKJV)
Today, after two hours of heavy rainfall, the sky shone with a beautiful promise from God, the rainbow. It was so awe-inspiring and beautiful that everyone, myself included, went outside to admire and take pictures of it. When asked which color was my favorite, I replied, “I do not have a single favorite; they are all my favorite colors.”
Some of my co-workers reminded me that I needed to watch how I spoke concerning the rainbow and my appreciation or liking of all the colors, which took me aback. Here is what the rainbow should mean to those who abide in Christ.
After the flood, God made a covenant with Noah not to destroy the earth again with water (Verses 11, 12). Whenever we look at a rainbow, we should rejoice because it is a visible symbol of the mercy of God. Both Ezekiel and Revelation speak of this symbol in heaven over Jehovah and the throne of God (Ezekiel 1:28; Revelation 4:3).
In Patriarchs and Prophets, E. G. White wrote, “When man by his great wickedness invites divine judgments, the Saviour, interceding with the Father in his behalf, points to the bow in the clouds, to the rainbow around the throne and above his own head, as a token of the mercy of God toward the repentant sinner” (pg 58).
As Christians, we should remind ourselves and those within the community who identifies with the rainbow of God’s love for sinners. While we were sinners, Christ came and died for us, and He did not come to condemn the world but that everyone might receive salvation through Him. (Romans 5:8, John 3:16-18).
As believers, we can hold on to God’s promises because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Praise God for His blessed assurances.
Prayer Focus: Remembering God’s Covenant.
Prayer: Dear Father, may we see the rainbow and remember your covenant. May we confess our sins and claim salvation in christ today and every day as we look forward to your soon return. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
