SHARING THE LAST MEAL

SHARING THE LAST MEAL

Read 1 Kings 17:8-16

And Elijah said to her, ‘Do not fear; go and do as you said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me, and afterward make some for yourself and your son.

1 Kings 17:13 (NKJV)

This week at church, we had an early thanksgiving celebration. We could go into the community and share gift bags with some of the less fortunate and help make their thanksgiving a better experience. It is a joy when we can extend the blessings that God has given us to our neighbors. Love is in action when we are “distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality” (Romans 12:13). Selfishness should never be a name among the people of God.

Furthermore, we need not wait to become rich and have abundant to share. The widow at Zarephath did not have much to share but gave Elijah the first serving of her last meal. It took great faith from this woman, considering she saw her son and herself dying of starvation after this (Verse 12). God responded to her faith by multiplying her flour and oil until the drought ended. There was more than enough to feed her family.

In conclusion, may we never cease to give what we have to those in need. God promises blessings to those who are givers. “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38). We can never out give God’s giving.
