PLEASING GOD
Read John 14:15-24
If you love Me, keep My Commandments.
John 14:15 (NKJV)
Love is more than a feeling. It is a verb requiring us to act. Loving God prompts our desire to please Him by keeping His commandments. Jesus declares, “He who does not love Me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me” (Vs. 24). Love equals obedience. There cannot be obedience without love.
Moreover, God does not require us to do this naturally in our strength. We are to surrender our will to Him daily. When we love Christ and desire to obey, we surrender our will, and Christ supplies the help. “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever” (Vs. 15). Jesus set the example for us. Daily He was in communion with the Father in prayer. When Jesus taught the disciples to pray, He told them to ask for the Holy Spirit (Luke 11: 9-13).
There are many blessings promised to those who follow God’s will. “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city” (Revelation 22:12). Our choice to surrender our will today enables us to love and obey. May we endeavor to glorify God by choosing Him.
