PEACE IN THE STORM
Read Matthew 8:24-27
But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
Matthew 8:26 (NKJV)
We all, at some point, face storms in our lives. While on the sea with Jesus, the disciples had both a physical and spiritual experience. As the angry waves thrashed and the rushing water filled their boat, they cried out to Jesus, who was fast asleep, out of fear of losing their lives. They felt helpless in their current circumstances. Their doubt dwarfed their faith, and they could not see the Truth and the Light, Christ, who was in the boat with them.
When Jesus commanded the winds and water to be still, he showed the disciples that He was the master of all creation and the Messiah that came down to earth. (John 1:14) The word of God, which spoke worlds into existence and quieted the winds and water, is “the Son of Man who came to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Jesus understands and cares about us. We should never be afraid to cry out to God during our storms. When we pray, He inclines His ears to our voice and is able to do more than we can ever ask of him.
Consequently, whatever wind and waves (sickness, relationship, emotional and financial strains, etc.) are blowing a storm in your life today, rest assured that Jesus is the master of them all. You can put your faith in Him, who created the world, calmed the sea, and died once and for all. Jesus can and will restore peace only if you take courage and allow Him to.
