MY MONEY AND I

MY MONEY AND I

Read Luke 12:13-34

And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”

Luke 12:19 (NKJV)

My friend and I worked hard over the summer to return home and take care of personal business. At the time, we had taken on 12-hour shifts at our workplace to make as much money as possible. A month after returning home, I heard he had a heart attack and needed over a million Jamaican dollars to do the surgery. He sought help to come up with this money, having used most of what he saved to build a house. Sadly, in less than a week, he died without surgery. I thought of how he labored endlessly, and now he was not alive to enjoy his rewards, and neither could he take anything with him to the grave.

Many desire wealth, going to the ends of the earth to acquire such possessions. Others want financial security. For the rich selfish man, God made His regard known. “But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?”(Verse 20).

We should not spend all our time laboring for wealth and fame because all is vanity (1 John 2:16, 17). “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19). We are to seek heavenly treasurers by leading others to Jesus. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).

Going forward, let us seek to lay our treasures in Heaven. May we spend our best energies laboring for the cause of God. Let us not, like Judas, sell our souls for material gain (Matthew 26:14, 15) that is here today and gone tomorrow.

Prayer Focus: To be rich in Spirit.

Prayer: Holy Father, help us not to put our trust in the things of this world but may we put all our confidence in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for Today: Set your mind in Heavenly places!
