MOLDING THE FAMILY

MOLDING THE FAMILY

Read Deuteronomy 6:1-25

You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Deuteronomy 6:7 (NKJV)

Before embarking upon the Promise Land, the children of Israel received the commandments of God that they should live. It was to be from generation to generation. It is that “repetition is the key to real learning” Jack Canfield, Janet Switzer (2009). “The Success Principles (TM),” p.32, Harper Collins. Constant reinforcement of the commandments was encouraged.

In addition, God promised many blessings to those who keep His commandments. The ultimate reward is to be with Him in Heaven (Revelation 22:14). While there are blessings for obedience, there are consequences for disobedience (James 1:14-15).   Adhering to these principles was for their benefit. God never called them to be obedient to anything detrimental to their well-being.

If we want our children and families to learn of God and grow in His knowledge, we must seek to meditate daily, teach and live out the word of God in our lives. By beholding the power of God in our lives, our families will become changed (2 Corinthians 3:18). “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

Lastly, may we take responsibility in guiding our family, whether spouse, children, those in our household, or other distant relatives, on God’s precepts. Our first place of witnessing should be within our family unit.
