HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
Read Philippians 3:1-21
Our citizenship is in heaven, and we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20, (NKJV)
Interestingly, every year the world celebrates the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, yet there is little spoken of or recognition that he will be returning. When Jesus left earth and ascended to heaven, He promised He would prepare a place for us. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may also be. (John 14:2-3). The Christians hope that Jesus will be returning to claim His people.
Reflecting on Jesus, there are reminders in the Bible. Jesus says, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give everyone according to his work” (Revelation 22:12). We should neither place our hope in man nor the things of this world. “Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God” (Psalm 146:5). We should seek after Christ that none of us should be cast away on that day (Matthew 25:31-46). Let us not make permanent plans in a temporary world.
We do not know the day nor the hour (Matthew 24:36), but we look forward to this, the next great world event. May we as a people be ready to hail him as Saviour and Lord over our lives. “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). I plan to be there. Do you?
