HAPPINESS IN GOD
Read Psalm 34:1-22
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.
Psalm 34:8 (NKJV)
Today, it is easy to get overwhelmed and distracted by our circumstances. So many humans are stuck in the natural or carnal states (1 Corinthians 2:14; 1 Corinthians 3:1-4) and are easily overwhelmed and distracted by life’s circumstances. They miss today’s blessings because they look to the world for wisdom. But the world did not then, and does not now, know Him (John 1:10).
The Psalmist knew God and had seen the fruits of trusting in Him. For it was God who saved David from the Philistines and King Saul. The same God who provided for David then can deliver us now! We can taste the Bread of Life (c.f. John 6:26-35), receive the Spirit of God, and reap the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Therefore, we need to have no fear. We can be confident, like David, that “the angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him and delivers them” (verse 7). When we put our hope in the Lord, we will be blessed.
Furthermore, we are changed by beholding God’s goodness (2 Corinthians 3:18). Today, as we meditate on His Word and reflect on His righteousness, may our hearts be filled with gratitude and praise. As He fills us with His joy, we eventually will begin to reflect His meekness (John 15:11).
