FRIEND OF A WOUNDED HEART

FRIEND OF A WOUNDED HEART

Read John 11:1-46

Jesus wept.

John 11:35 (NKJV)

Within the past year, twelve individuals from my neighborhood died. I reflected on and cherished the memories of those with whom I had known since my youth. Did they know God? Did they have a relationship with Christ? Did they accept God’s gift throughout their lives? Will we have a heavenly reunion and rejoice together at the second coming of Christ? It is natural to mourn the loss of our loved ones and those closest to us. In this life, we know that death is sure. “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment .”(Hebrews 9:27)

As Mary and Martha mourned the loss of their brother Lazarus, Jesus was moved by their pain and saddened by their grief. (Verse. 33) God is deeply touched and compassionate towards us in our times of sorrow. He sees each tear that falls and weeps with us in our suffering. Jesus himself experienced death and conquered the grave. “O death where is thy sting, O grave, where is thy victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:55 KJV). It was because of God’s love why He gave us His only Son, even unto death. (John 3:16)

Today, Jesus is saying, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). Just as He raised Lazarus from the dead, we are looking to the day when we will see our loved ones again. We couldn’t ask for a more caring Savior than one who has not only experienced death but has conquered the grave!
