BEARING CHRIST’S FRUIT
Read Galatians 5:16-26
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22- 23 (NKJV)
If you were blindfolded and took a taste test of ten different common fruit, there is a high probability you would get them right. The fruit would direct you to the tree, plant, or bush on which it grows. Similarly, Paul tells the Galatians that their fruit will make their character known.
Paul makes a clear distinction between the Spirit and the flesh. He says they are the antithesis of each other. The lust of the flesh will reveal those who choose the flesh (Vv. 19-21). Note the list is not all-inclusive. The fruit of the Spirit will also show those who choose the Spirit (Vv. 22, 23). What type of fruit are we producing? How do we produce the fruit of the Spirit?
Paul provides the answers in verse 24, “those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Therefore, we want to stay connected to the vine, Jesus Christ, apart from Him, we cannot bear the fruit of the Spirit. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to change our hearts, minds, and behavior to those that exemplify Christ.
