AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
Read Luke 17:11-19
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God.
Luke 17:15(NKJV)
The story of the ten lepers in the Bible is a well-known story of being thankful. Jesus healed ten lepers; however, only one returned to give thanks. In today’s age, thankfulness comes around only once a year and maybe just before turkey carving. I often forget how refreshing a “thank you” can be, let alone what a testimony an out-loud “Thank you, God” can be.
“It is for our own benefit to keep every gift of God fresh in our memory. Thus faith is strengthened to claim and to receive more and more. There is greater encouragement for us in the least blessings we ourselves receive from God that in all the accounts we can read of the faith and experience of others. The soul that responds to the grace of God shall be like a watered garden” (Desire of Ages 348.2).
Many have their basic needs (food, shelter, clothing) catered to, yet they always complain about their wants. “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31). “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
An attitude of praise can bring the refreshing water of life and be a testimony to God. As we go about our day, week, month, and year, let us be like the leper and allow our faith to make us well (Luke 17:19).
Prayer Focus: Gratitude
Prayer: Dear God, may we appreciate Your grace and mercies, which renew daily. May we give a testimony of Your goodness with our thankfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thought for Today: A heart of praise is a heart of gratitude.
