A TIME TO CELEBRATE
Read Acts 2:14-39
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38 (NKJV)
People are known to love celebrations. Whether it is weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, you name it, they want to commemorate some important event that took place. In the Bible, there is countless evidence of festive celebrations. Last year, I started acknowledging the moment I came to Christ for Baptism. It was the best day of my life. It’s a time to thank God for leading me to Jesus, accepting Him, and praying for continued guidance to live and grow in Him.
As soon as Jesus got baptized, “the Heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him” (Matthew 3:16). That same Spirit is promised to every believer as Peter tells us in Acts 2:38. Centuries later, we are still following Jesus’s example, being immersed as he did in the river (Matthew 3:16). We are symbolizing death to sin and being buried with him. “Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4 KJV).
As we accept to follow Christ, let us repent of our sins, knowing that He is the only one who can forgive us and present us before God. We are promised the Holy Spirit; therefore, let us seek after eternal things walking in the light of Jesus.
Prayer Focus: Receiving the Holy Spirit in our walk of faith.
Prayer: Holy Father, we desire to follow Jesus’s example in baptism. Bless us with your Holy Spirit as you speak to our hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
