A PRIVILEGE TO LEAD

A PRIVILEGE TO LEAD

Read Romans 16:1-2

I commend to you, Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea.

Romans 16:1 (NKJV)

I know that women in leadership have been a very controversial topic in many churches. Amidst the controversy, we cannot deny that God has used women in times past and still today. One such we will examine is Phoebe, a less-known woman in the Bible, and the role she played in ministry.

She served as a deacon in the church, serving among the elders. One task entrusted was traveling with Paul’s letters to the Roman believers. We can also see that she gave hospitality, goodness, and kindness (Verse 2). Paul commended her, seeing she was exceptional in character and of great importance.

Many women today are evangelists, missionaries, teachers, authors, etc. They lead in their homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces, among other settings where leadership is lacking. God has been using them where sometimes males are failing to stand. God is ready and willing to employ anyone who avails themselves to be used by Him. If God used a talking donkey (Numbers 22:28-30) to aid Balaam in coming to his senses, O, how much more can He use women?

Whatever God has asked of you, accept the mantle with boldness, knowing that He who has called you will equip you. Women should never feel inferior in the cause of God. You can be a vessel of honor.
